PARISH PRECEPT HELD STEADY

Added: 16th February 2011

Greasley Parish Councillors have acknowledged the uncertain financial future facing many families and have budgeted for a zero increase in the parish precept.

This means that for a Band D property the council tax for parish purposes will remain the same at £49.86 pence per year or just 96 pence per week.

Even though a standstill budget has been returned the parish council is nonetheless moving forward in a number of areas, said Council Chairman John Handley. "Work has already started on the expansion and development of the Lifestyles fitness gym in the sports and community centre.

"And we are at the planning stage of a major modernisation and refurbishment of the Beauvale play area, a project in which we hope children from the nearby Greasley Beauvale Primary School will become involved."

Cllr Handley said Greasley was able to finance these schemes despite having to absorb a £26,000 cut back in grant from Broxtowe Borough Council who were predicting a three fold increase in their elections charges this May, an increase which could cost Greasley a further £10,000.
