We're pleased to announce the opening of the Greasley Diamond Jubilee Gallery in the 'Greasley Gallery' section of the website.

To launch the gallery, we have three pictures courtesy of Brian Eyre of the Eastwood & Kimberley Advertiser which manage to give a glimpse of just some of the magic of the celebrations that took place throughout the parish of Greasley to mark the Queen's Diamond Jubilee.

Whilst there are only three pictures to begin with, we're hoping that with your help that we can expand this section to include more fabulous photographs to document this wonderful and unique occasion.

To help us do so, please submit your photographs of the days events to greasleypc@btconnect.com. Don't forget to include your name and a caption (if you so wish) and we'll look at adding it to the Diamond Jubilee gallery.

You may also use this email address to submit any other pictures you have in relation to the parish of Greasley (that you own the copyright to). Maybe you have some scenic views of the locality or perhaps you have some historical photographs of the area. If so, don't forget to include your name and details of the photo(s) and any caption you would like to appear.

Remember, as with all photo submissions, we can't always guarantee inclusion, and we reserve the right to make editorial modifications and resize and crop images if appropriate. The copyright of any submitted photographs will of course remain yours, but after submission we reserve the right to use the photograph on any part of the Greasley Parish Council website.

We hope to hear from you soon!

The parish council is planning to install additional play equipment later this year to complete the project as well as introduce a new children's play area on the Greenhills Road recreation ground.

"I'm looking forward to a year of activity in the parish," said Coun. Layton who added that plans were being discussed for a makeover of the Moorgreen Corner landscape feature.

"Thanks to the events of the Diamond Jubilee my year of office got off to the best possible start. It was a joy to be involved in the celebrations and I can only hope that the same community spirit carries over for a long time to come.

If any parish group or organisation feels I can help them in some way they only have to contact me," said Coun. Layton.

Jubilee Spirit thrills the Parish!

Added: 14th June 2012

Chairman thanks parishioners

"As Chairman of Greasley Parish Council I would like to publicly offer my congratulations to all those involved in the highly successful 2012 Diamond Jubilee Parish Party.

Contrary to reports the event was NOT organised by the parish council. The parish council was but one of more than 20 groups, individuals, organisations and businesses who shared the work - and the fun - of the day's celebrations.

The endeavours of the organisers and the support of the parishioners made me feel proud to live in such a public spirited community.

Greasley is often overlooked - simply tagged on to Eastwood or Kimberley depending which way the wind is blowing but on 4th June Greasley made its mark.

The day started with around 50 people enjoying a breakfast walk and then the crowds continued to build firstly ath the sports and community centre and finally at the Horse & Groom culminating with over 500 people singing and dancing in an atmosphere on a par with Last Night of the Proms.

Thanks to everyone who helped and supported the event. Remember it was a Great day - a Greasley Day!".

Cllr June Layton

NEW CHAIRMAN:
Hello and welcome from new Chairman,
Councillor June Layton

Added: 14th June 2012

Greasley‘s new Chairman (2008) catches up with correspondence in her home office.

Greasley's new Chairman catches up with correspondence in her home office.

Chairman wants to help as many parish organisations as possible.

Newly elected Chairman of Greasley Parish Council, Cllr June Layton, intends to operate an "open-door" policy during her civic year.

Not only will she "lend an ear" to parishioners who need help or have a problem but she is also willing to "lend a hand" and support community groups in any way which she can.

"I feel honoured and proud to be elected to this position to represent the parish of Greasley. If residents need help I want them to feel free to approach me to see what can be done to improve the situation.

"I also believe that the many voluntary groups we are fortunate enough to have in Greasley are the thread which holds the community together and if I can assist them in any way by supporting their events, they only have to ask."

Cllr Layton was born in Nottingham and moved to Eastwood before settling in Newthorpe. She and her husband Lionel celebrate their 35th wedding anniversary this year.

As a member of the Young Conservatives she assisted with the group's administration and also worked as a receptionist for a local dental surgeon.

She subsequently moved to Vic Hallam's at Langley Mill where she worked as Assistant Personnel Office until the firm's closure.

During this time she also worked as Secretary of the Eastwood and District Conservative Club. She worked for a time as secretary to local builder Lawrence Birkin and rounded off her professional career with Prudential Assurance as the Customer Accounts Representative.

Cllr Layton lists her interests as keeping fit using the aerobic facilities and swimming pool at the local fitness club. She also enjoys flower arranging.

This is her third term as a parish councillor. "I find the work very interesting. I've always had an interest in politics, I enjoy helping in the community and I love Greasley. It really is an outstanding parish and although some parts have been heavily developed we will do everything we can to protect and preserve its rural character."
