Greasley Gathers Together Again!

Added: 13th April 2015

The Greasley Gathering - Spring Bank Holiday Monday 25th May 2015

As the May Day Bank Holiday - Monday May 25th - rapidly approaches, organisers of the annual Greasley Gathering are firming up the day's ever growing timetable of entertainment.

A day long programme of events, with something to suit everyone has been arranged, starting with the Greasley Gambol breakfast walk at Beauvale Priory and ending with bbq's, music and entertainment at five of the parish's pubs.

Tom Longton and his Working Sheepdogs coming to Greasley Gathering 2015

During the day the hub of activity will be the Greasley Sports & Community Centre. Topping the bill will be renowned dog handler Tom Longton and his award winning working sheepdogs. Past winners of the prestigious English National Brace title and regular competitors in the annual International Team Trials Tom and his dogs have been giving arena demonstrations for over 20 years.

But for the Gathering something rather special is in store. For sheep read DUCKS. In one of the funniest shows around the dogs herd the ducks through a series of obstacles. And it gets even more hilarious when the ducks decide to misbehave!

A family favourite making a welcome return is the pair of London Routemaster buses which from approx 11am to 5.00pm will be offering free rides around the parish to the various centres of activity. The service is free but donations will be welcomed.

The sports centre will be hosting numerous stalls and displays from local community groups promoting their work in a programme which will also include:-

  • Performances from the Eastwood Community Choir
  • Inflatables and fun fair rides
  • A chance to try your hand at bowls
  • Children's magic show with Don Chambers
  • Pulp Friction and the Glee Choir
  • Medieval archery shoot
  • Displays of model car racing
  • Tours of the newly refurbished Lifestyles Fitness Suite
  • Attendance of the Hovis Van
  • Craftworks at the Creation Station
  • Children's story telling
  • Samba music and a Samba band workshop

Away from the centre, the Beauvale Priory Tearooms will be hosting a beer festival. The Horse & Groom, Queens Head, Royal Oak, New Inn and the Foresters Arms are all Gathering partners and will be staging their own events during the day.

A craft fair is to be held at St Mary's parish church, Greasley and The Moorgreen Residents Association will again be holding their Scarecrow Trail while just down the road the Friends of Colliers Wood will be hosting lots more scarecrows made by local schoolchildren.

So be sure not to miss the 2015 Greasley Gathering, it looks set to be another fun-packed family day!
